Pankaj Udhas, a paramount Ghazal singer of India, was born on 17th April 1951 in Jetpur, Gujarat. His elder brother Manhar Udhas was also a playback singer in Bollywood and he achieved some success in playback singing industry of India. Pankaj Udhas’s family was moved from Jetpur to Bombay where Pankaj Udhas attended St. Xavier's College of Bombay. He earned a graduate degree in Arts.
Pankaj Udhas was initially noted as a professional singer in the hindi film “Naam” released in 1986. In this movie his song “Chithi Aai Hai” became an all time hit. Afterwards, he recorded a number of albums since that time and toured the whole world as an accomplished and appreciated Ghazal singer. He has also composed music for many films and performed as a playback singer for others.
Pankaj Udhas is credited with carrying an exclusive singing style where Urdu poetry is set to music for the mass audience across the sub-continent along with other singers of this category like Jagjit Singh and Talat Aziz.
